Novinky z IBC 2016 - Sony (1/2)

This year's IBC 2016 in Amsterdam was not as rich in news as the previous years, but on the other hand, most of the presented news will be available in a very short time. Hopefully other brands will follow this trend and not announce new products sometimes even a year in advance.

The Sony booth was also quite busy thanks to the new Sony HXR-NX5R

handycam camera. It is an upgraded successor of the very popular HXR-NX5 and HXR-NX3 camcorders. Fortunately, the new NX5R has taken the best of both models and created a very interesting camera.

Sony HXR-NX5R

The Sony HXR-NX5R offers both networking features and increased performance. The trio of 1/2.8" Sony EXMOR CMOS sensors guarantee excellent color rendition and high sensitivity. The 40x Clear Image Zoom function takes care of doubling the optical zoom without sacrificing image quality. Recording in a wide range of formats further expands the camera's deployment options - from recording cultural or sporting events to wedding ceremonies or corporate videos. Thanks to the 3G-SDI output, the camera is also ideal for live events, concerts or a wide variety of events. The innovative LED light with adjustable intensity minimizes the need to use external lighting. Of course, there are powerful DSP circuits and noise reduction algorithms and great color and detail rendition for vivid images with perfectly rendered details. In addition to the aforementioned new features, the NX5R also brings quick menu access, an easy-to-use control joystick, compatibility with NP-Fxx batteries, an active MI Shoue for Sony UWP-D series wireless microports, and other goodies. The camera is available now and you can try it out at our place (Bratislava).

Sony MXC-500

Sony has also introduced a new video switcher MCX-500

with eight camera inputs and one computer input, which can be used as an input for a subtitler. So this device not only allows you to switch inputs, but also mix audio, generate multiview, plus it also functions as an Internet video streamer with similar streaming features to those offered by the PXW-X70 camera.

The RM-30BP remote controller can be added to the switcher via daisy chain connection. So we will be able to remotely control cameras like the HXR-NX5R or PXW-FS5 in this way (after firmware update). It will also be possible to display a tally signal directly on the camera's LCD display, which of course is not recorded, it only serves as information for the cameraman. The tally signal can have three different states, which are color-coded. Grey - when nothing is happening to the camera, green - when the camera is in prewiev mode or red when the camera is in broadcast mode. We can also control the camera recording directly from the switcher but also record the switcher's program output to the SD card, so the whole solution is very compact. In terms of inputs the overhead has four SDI inputs, two HDMI inputs and two video connections. In addition to these eight inputs, there's an additional RGB input from the computer, which is used to add subtitles or graphics to the video signal.

Sony RM-30BP

A new universal system for remote control of multi-camera setups. The RM-30BP is the successor to the RM-1000BP, which was the first multi-camera remote control on the market. The product is ideal for independent camera operators and small productions: it is lightweight, easy to use and can be easily used directly on a camera tripod or small table. With the RM-30BP remote you can control a large number of camera functions, including

  • Auto/Manual Focus, Aperture and Zoom.
  • Recording and preview functions, shutter speed, white balance, etc.
  • Video playback and functions for controlling up to three cameras simultaneously.

The remote can be connected to the new MCX-500 overhead to control multiple cameras directly from this overhead and is compatible with the HXR-NX5R and PXW-FS7 (v4.0) cameras. Compatibility with other cameras is planned.
