A new digital film camera that features a revolutionary 12K RGBW sensor in the versatile PYXIS camera design. This new model uses the same sensor as the URSA Cine 12K LF with a stunning 16-foot dynamic range, a pair of CFexpress media recorders, 10G Ethernet and Blackmagic Cloud global sync, all in a customizable body. L-Mount model. Availability is expected for July 2025.
Blackmagic PYXIS models can shoot in all standard resolutions and frame rates from HD to DCI 4K, 6K, 8K and even 12K. The Blackmagic PYXIS 12K offers a sensor that allows you to shoot at 12K, 8K or 4K resolutions at full sensor size. You can shoot up to 40 frames per second at 12288 x 8040 3:2 open gate, 60 frames per second at 12288 x 5112 2.4:1 and 112 frames per second at 4096 x 2160 4K.
Blackmagic PYXIS models feature a large full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032 or a massive 12288 x 8040. This is nearly three times larger than the Super 35 sensor and allows customers to shoot with shallow depth of field or use anamorphic lenses without cropping for a true cinematic look. Whether shooting in bright light or almost no light, the huge dynamic range with the high-performance sensor delivers stunning low-noise images in all lighting conditions. In addition, PYXIS allows customers to shoot up to 112 frames per second. This amazing sensor gives customers the quality that the most expensive digital film cameras have.
Using the entire sensor area gives customers a unique 3:2 open gate image, which also allows them to reformat the footage in post-production. The large sensor also allows them to work in true 6:5 anamorphic format without cropping, making wide-angle film shots more detailed and higher resolution than before.
The Blackmagic PYXIS has a built-in 4″ high-resolution HDR touchscreen display, which is ideal for monitoring and controlling footage on set. Its full HD resolution allows customers to properly frame and focus shots without having to carry a bulky external monitor. Alternatively, the Blackmagic PYXIS Monitor can be attached to the camera - a versatile 5″ HDR touchscreen monitor with full camera control that can be mounted almost anywhere.
Innovative side plates further expand the camera's mounting options. The standard plate that comes with the Blackmagic PYXIS is made from the same aircraft aluminum as the camera body and includes 2 1/4″ and one 3/8″ threads, allowing customers to add microphones, mounts or other accessories. Or users can attach the included SSD plate, which provides a convenient place to securely connect a USB-C drive for recording or even a mobile phone for live streaming.
Blackmagic PYXIS records in Blackmagic RAW to maintain control over detail, exposure and color during post-production. It also records HD H.264 proxies in real-time, making it easy to share media around the world in minutes. This means images retain unprecedented resolution and quality for color, keying, compositing, reformatting, stabilization and tracking in HD, 4K, 6K, 8K or even 12K.
Blackmagic PYXIS includes two built-in CFexpress card slots for recording and a USB-C expansion port for recording directly to external flash media or SSDs. CFexpress media is more durable and faster than legacy media, making it ideal for recording full resolution 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files.
Blackmagic PYXIS records HD proxies in H.264. A small proxy file can be uploaded to the Blackmagic Cloud in seconds, even while the camera is still recording, making their media available back in the studio in real time. When uploading to Blackmagic Cloud, customers can use an Apple or Android phone to connect to the internet via mobile data. Customers can also connect via wired Ethernet using the camera's Ethernet port. This allows customers to transfer media while filming so that post-production teams around the world can begin working in real time.
Blackmagic PYXIS offers a wide range of connectors for audio, monitoring, power and more. The camera includes a 12G-SDI output for monitoring with support for HDR and Ultra HD output. This means customers can connect an SDI display for on-set monitoring of images. SDI allows for longer cable runs than HDMI, making it easier to reach monitors that are farther away from the camera.
Blackmagic PYXIS includes a built-in hardware streaming engine that supports RTMP and SRT streaming to YouTube, Facebook, X and more. For Internet access, users have two options - connect via Ethernet or connect a 4G or 5G phone for mobile data. Because streaming is integrated directly into the camera, customers can monitor the streaming status and data stream in the viewfinder and on the LCD display.
Customers can choose between L-Mount, EF or PL lenses, making the Blackmagic PYXIS compatible with the world's widest range of film and photography lenses. The L-Mount model works with the latest full-frame lenses from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma, but also allows the use of adapters for a wide range of new and vintage lenses.
