Its focal length is equivalent to 36mm to 79mm in 35mm format, making it ideal for portraits, nature, animals and landscape photography. With an opaque f/4 aperture and powerful Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), it can capture images with exceptional detail, which is achieved thanks to carefully engineered optics with 16 elements divided into 12 groups.

Among its optical elements are three aspherical, one ED and one Super ED element that help minimize unwanted effects such as distortion and chromatic aberration, ensuring excellent sharpness and color clarity. Fast and reliable autofocusing is key to capturing the perfect portrait, which is ensured by a powerful linear motor that enables quiet and fast response.

The lens features a 5-axis optical stabilization system that compensates for camera shake to produce sharp images even when shooting handheld. For compatible GFX cameras that have in-body image stabilization (IBIS), the additional stabilization contributes up to 0.5 EV. Optical stabilisation can be conveniently switched on and off using the OIS switch on the lens.

An aperture ring on the lens allows fine aperture adjustment in 1/3 steps from F/4 to F/32, with a choice of auto and command modes for in-camera control. With a weight of 1,005g and a length of 144.5mm, the lens is easily portable, while the 2.2x optical zoom makes it a compact glass. It is also equipped with 11 weather seals , ensuring protection against moisture, dirt and dust, and is durable in temperatures as low as -10°C.
