Nine years after the introduction of its predecessor, FUJIFILM has come up with a second-generation versatile standard zoom lens that it describes as the pinnacle of excellence, advanced technology and uncompromising quality. The new design enhancements bring improved resolution for FUJIFILM's latest 40Mpx sensors, expanding the possibilities in video shooting, all while being significantly smaller in size and lighter in weight. Improved glass polishing and machining and advanced mounting techniques have meant that the second-generation lens is now 11mm shorter and approximately 37% lighter than its predecessor. The filter thread has also been reduced to 72 mm.
The XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II lens lets you capture every moment with the utmost precision. The focal length of 16mm (23mm equivalent) provides a wide field of view, making it ideal for everyday scenes, documentary and street photography. On the other hand, 55mm (84mm equivalent) is perfect for portraits and allows you to focus on details. Regardless of the focal length you choose, the maximum f/2.8 aperture gives you great performance even in low light. Plus, thanks to the rounded 11-blade aperture, you'll achieve smooth, subtle and pronounced bokeh that enhances selective focus and shallow depth-of-field techniques, giving your photos a professional quality.
While the XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II lens retains the exceptional sharpness of its award-winning predecessor, its optical design has been enhanced with the addition of an extra Super ED element. This element increases edge sharpness and significantly reduces chromatic aberration. Together with the three extra-low dispersion lenses, it minimises colour fringing and chromatic aberration, ensuring high clarity and accurate colour reproduction throughout the zoom range.
The number of aspherical lenses has been increased by one, which helps to better control distortion and spherical aberration, increasing overall image sharpness. Thanks to advances in aspherical lens technology and their extremely fine machining, "ring" patterns in bokeh - artifacts that can appear in the background - are reduced. Even at maximum aperture, where zoom lenses often struggle, this lens delivers excellent results with ultra-fine detail.
Despite its compact size, the XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II offers excellent autofocus performance. Thanks to a specially designed linear motor, focusing is smooth, nearly noiseless, and now even faster and more precise. The minimum focusing distance of 0.3m and maximum magnification of 0.21x give you great opportunities for close-ups.
Although the lens is primarily designed for photographers, it will also meet the needs of video makers. For the first time on an XF series lens, a switch (Click Off) is available to deactivate the aperture ring lock, ensuring smooth and nearly silent exposure control without clicking or vibration.
The most dramatic moments often come in inclement weather. That's why the XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II has been designed to withstand dust and moisture. Combined with the X-Series weatherproof body, it's ideal for photographers who want to work anywhere and in almost any conditions. Thanks to the careful sealing, you don't have to worry about water droplets, sand, dust or temperatures dropping as low as -10°C, so you can create without limitations.
