The Sony Alpha A7S III is a mirrorless camera with a new 12.1 MPx full frame EXMOR R sensor and a new BIONZ XR image processor. It records up to 4K video at 120 frames per second at 10-bit 4:2:2 resolution and 15-degree dynamic range with ISO sensitivity settings from 40 to 409,600. The focusing system has 759 AF points that cover 92% of the sensor. Real-time autofocusing on the eyes has also been improved. The system architecture of the new Alpha 7S III has been redesigned from the ground up to deliver exceptional performance in both video recording and still photography. The all-new full frame Exmor R™ CMOS rear illuminated 12.1 MP (approximate effective MP count) full-frame image sensor uses a range of advanced light capture techniques to ensure high sensitivity with low noise in low light conditions, making it unnecessary to use large illumination set-ups. In addition to improved quality, this new image sensor brings focal plane phase-detection AF (AF) for the first time ever to an S-series camera. The Alpha 7S III also features the new BIONZ XR™ image processor, which complements the image sensor and provides up to eight times more processing power, minimizes processing latency, reduces the occurrence of the "rolling shutter" effect by up to three times, and is behind many of this camera's characteristics for both still photography and video recording. The new system also features the world's brightest and largest electronic OLED eye-level viewfinder with 9.44 million dots. The new camera is also the world's first to feature dual CFexpress Type A memory card slots. This enables high-speed data transfer while maintaining a compact size.

A professional solution for video recording
The Alpha 7S III offers 4K video recording to internal memory at 120 frames per second with 10-bit colour depth and 4:2:2 colour sampling. This makes for stunning video recording. The new camera comes with a more flexible and efficient post-production workflow with a number of advanced modes for video recording, such as All-intra mode and MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 encoding (XAVC HS™). The Alpha 7S III makes it easy to integrate recorded footage with other professional camcorders by offering three different color gamut settings: S-Gamut, S-Gamut3, and S-Gamut3.Cine. When using S-Gamut3 or S-Gamut3.Cine, users can easily combine footage shot with the Alpha 7S III with footage shot on professional camcorders. This simplifies the post-production workflow when working with multiple cameras. In addition to S-Log3 gamma curves, the Alpha 7S III supports the HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) image profile with minimal need for post-production. The Alpha 7S III also enables 16-bit RAW output to external recording equipment via HDMI Type A, offering additional flexibility in post-production.

Improved image quality
The Alpha 7S III's new CMOS image sensor and BIONZ XR™ image processor bring the legendary sensitivity of the S-Series with fundamentally improved colour reproduction and texture rendition, resulting in better overall image quality. The base ISO sensitivity has been reduced to 80. The result is a standard ISO sensitivity range of 80-102400 (expandable to 80-409600 for video and 40-409600 for stills), delivering more flexible ISO sensitivity plus a wide dynamic range with low noise at all settings. This improves image quality by approximately 1 noise reduction step at medium and high sensitivity settings
The reproduction of colors and textures of foliage, human skin and more is ideal and consistent, regardless of light sources. Gradation has also been improved for better rendition of skin tones and highlights roll-off in portraits. It also improves the performance of Auto White Balance - AWB (Auto WB), where a new Visible Light + IR Sensor helps achieve more accurate white balance under artificial lighting, including fluorescent and LED lighting.

Advanced autofocus for hybrid use
For the first time ever, the Alpha 7S series model, the Alpha 7S III, offers Fast Hybrid AF autofocus, which combines phase detection and contrast detection AF, giving the camera the ability to track subjects over a large area at exceptional speed, accurately and smoothly, even when used with shallow depth of field. Fine focus expression is made possible by Sony's E-mount lenses.

In shots where faster movement is taking place, Real-time Tracking and Real-time Eye AF are available to maintain continuous focus on the subject. Sony's advanced Real-time Eye AF feature improves detection performance by 30% over the previous system thanks to a new image processor. It ensures accurate, reliable detection, even when the subject turns away. The Real-time Tracking function is activated simply by touching the subject on the display. At the same time, Real-time Eye AF is activated if the camera detects an eye.

Flexible autofocus settings when shooting video
The A7 S III is equipped with several autofocus functions for professional users, including seven AF Transition Speed settings to easily set smooth refocusing, and five AF Subject Shift Sensitivity settings that allow the user to adjust how easily the autofocus refocuses or stays focused on the selected subject according to their own needs
The Touch Tracking feature allows the user to not only start Real-time Tracking, but also to adjust composition and shoot while using the gimbal. Touch focusing is now possible via the touchscreen or remotely using the Imaging Edge Mobile app when manual focus mode is activated.

New heat-dissipating design
The design of the Alpha 7S III's construction has been redesigned to ensure efficient heat dissipation and prevent overheating - even when shooting continuous 10-bit 4K 60p 4:2:2 quality video for an hour or more. Newly developed unique design

heat dissipation keeps image sensor and image processor temperatures within their normal operating temperatures, preventing overheating. At the same time, the compact dimensions of the body are maintained.

Movie Assist function
The Alpha 7S III is the first camera in the Alpha series to offer Active Mode, which provides support for the particularly demanding task of shooting handheld video on the move, thanks to the five-axis optical image stabilization in the body.

It's also the first Alpha Series E-mount body with a flip-to-the-side display that has a variable tilt angle, making it ideal for gimbal-mounted shots, tricky shooting angles, handheld recording, and more. The display swivels side to side, up and down, and features a 3.0 LCD touch panel with 1.44 million dot resolution that ensures good visibility even in bright outdoor light.

A digital audio interface has been added to the camera's Multi Interface (MI) footprint for clearer audio recordings using a compatible external Sony microphone. Additionally, thanks to the XLR-K3M XLR adapter kit that can be used for the Alpha 7S III, 4-channel 24-bit digital audio recording can be recorded directly using the Alpha series camera for the first time. As with other accessories for the MI socket, there is no need for cables or batteries. This provides unlimited freedom when shooting with the Alpha system.

Exceptional photography
The Alpha 7S III has a Fast Hybrid AF system with 759 phase detection points that cover 92% of the image sensor area. The camera also achieves high autofocus accuracy and sharpens precisely and reliably even in low light levels down to EV-6. Continuous shooting is possible in both electronic and mechanical shutter modes at up to 10 frames per second or up to 8 frames per second in live view mode, and enables the acquisition of more than 1,000 uncompressed RAW images.

A world first, the Alpha 7S III comes with a 0.64 Quad-XGA electronic viewfinder with 9.44 million dots (approx.), a high-resolution OLED display and enhanced optics to deliver the highest resolution in its class. The Alpha 7S III's viewfinder offers 0.90x magnification, a diagonal angle of view covering 41°, and a 25mm high field of view for clear corner-to-corner viewing with minimal distortion. It is also dust, fog and humidity resistant, responsive and has switchable modes for different types of subjects.

As the first-ever Sony digital camera, the Alpha 7S III offers HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format), which enables 10-bit gradation and advanced compression technology that preserves image quality even when it substantially reduces file size, saving storage capacity. Photos captured in HEIF mode can be projected on compatible Sony HDR (HLG) TVs, which convey realistic dynamic range, by connecting the Alpha 7S III directly to the camera via HDMI.

CFexpress Type A memory card for high-speed data transfer
Another world-first feature of the Alpha 7S III is that it features two memory media slots that are compatible with CFexpress Type A cards, but also support UHS-I and UHS-II SDXC/SDHC cards. This allows for high write and read speeds, while the camera body dimensions remain compact. CFexpress Type A cards are ideally suited to high-speed burst shooting to RAW, as well as high bitrate 4K 120P video recording, delivering next-generation write speeds that can quickly empty the buffer of cameras that generate large volumes of photo and video data. High-speed data transfer to a computer is possible at approximately 1.7 times the speed of an SD card. The dual slots offer the option of setting an auto-switchover mode without stopping the video, which extends the length of continuous recording, which also applies to recording at high data rates.

High reliability gives creators new freedom
