The compact 4K HDR XDCAM PXW-Z90 features Fast Hybrid AF technology and a 1" CMOS Exmor RS sensor for high image quality and fast, stable autofocus. The new camera also supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) auto mode for creating high dynamic range videos with minimal post-production. Compared to the NX80, the Z90 also offers a range of features for TV production, including recording to XAVC formats with 4:2:2 10-bit (HD) and 4:2:0 8-bit (QFHD) sampling and MPEG2HD9 respectively, a 3G-SDI interface for compatibility with existing TV equipment, as well as advanced networking features such as support for Sony's XDCAM Air cloud service.
Sony Fast Hybrid AF
The Fast Hybrid AF focusing system with 273 AF points covers approximately 84% of the image area, and thanks to this high density and new algorithms, it ensures very precise, stable autofocus during shooting. The new technology ensures very precise focusing even when shooting 4K material and, by displaying the AF detection fields in video recording mode, allows you to accurately monitor subjects in the foreground. The camera is also equipped with a 0.39" high-resolution OLED viewfinder (2.359k dots) and a 3.5" LCD display with 1.555k dots and touch control for fast refocusing on a different subject (with the possibility to adjust AF Drive Speed, Tracking Depth Range and Subject Switching Sensitivity).
4K HDR
The new model supports recording 4K HDR material in HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) mode for easy creation of HDR videos. The result is high-quality output without the need for labor-intensive post-production: users are not forced to make color adjustments to the material, which often requires specialized software as well as in-depth knowledge of the subject matter. A number of other advanced technologies are available, including:
Full-area 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution readout thanks to the powerful BIONZ X image processing chip
Super Slow Motion recording at up to 1000 fps (no audio, 4K resolution is not supported in Super Slow Motion) or Slow & Quick Motion Full HD recording at up to 100 fps (no audio)
S-Log3/S-Gamut3 gamma curves
Wide-angle (29mm, 35mm eq.) 12x ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* zoom with 18x Clear Image Zoom (18x in 4K, 24x in HD)
Less motion distortion when shooting fast-moving subjects, compared to conventional models
Dual slots
With dual memory card slots, Proxy data recording options and continuous or simultaneous backup recording modes are available; multi-camera productions benefit from time code and user bit functions. The camera also features a remote control terminal, Multi-Interface Shoe and HDMI Type A interface.
XLR audio, Wi-Fi
The PXW-Z90 also offers two balanced audio inputs with XLR connectors, a detachable handle, and the ability to use the Content Browser Mobile smartphone app for Wi-Fi monitoring, remote control, and (optionally) remote synchronization of multiple cameras via time code.
Reporting features
In addition, the PXW-Z90 offers news-specific features, including XAVC recording in 4:2:2 10-bit (HD) and 4:2:0 8-bit (QFHD) formats and MPEG2HD9, a 3G-SDI interface for compatibility with existing TV equipment, as well as advanced networking features such as support for Sony's XDCAM Air cloud service.
