The Sony ZEISS Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA OSS lens is a professional stabilized zoom prime lens equipped with a Sony E-Mountbayonet .
It is designed for Sony NEX/ALPHA compact system cameras (CSC) with Full Frame sensor size.
The lens has a basic range of focal lengths: 24-70mm (36-105mm on NEX/ALPHA cameras with APS-C sensor), a top-quality optics system from the legendary ZEISS Vario Tessar T* brand, powerful image stabilization, constant f/4
aperture throughout the focal length range, 7-blade contoured aperture for perfect background blur - bokeh, fast stepping autofocus motor, rugged lightweight aluminum alloy construction and professional-grade sealing.
Designed and manufactured by the now legendary ZEISS brand, the lens' optical system can focus from as close as 40cm, providing 0.2x
image magnification. It consists of 12 lenses arranged in 10 groups. The optical system uses 5 specially shaped lenses with aspherical surface and 1 lens made of special low dispersion ED glass.
The angle of view of the lens at 24mm is 84° and at 70mm it is 34°, then when mounted on NEX/ALPHA models with APS-C sensors it is 61° at 36mm and 23° at 105mm.
The lens has excellent aperture, which is constant across the focal length range and starts at f/4. To work with depth of field, you can zoom all the way to f/22
. The lens features a powerful OSS optical image stabilizer and a fast autofocus system that relies on a silent stepper focus motor.
The lens' high-end optics are housed in a tube made of lightweight and extremely strong aluminium alloy. Its mechanical construction is very robust and is professionally sealed against the ingress of dust and moisture into the lens interior. There is no change in lens length when focusing and zooming, and the lens itself weighs only 426g at 73 x 95mm.
The front of the lens is threaded for conventional 67mm diameter circular filters, which do not rotate making it easy to use transition and polarising filters.
