The 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD (model A067) creates a whole new category of high-performance ultra-telephoto zoom lenses for mirrorless cameras. With an eight times zoom ratio starting at 50mm, this Nikon Z mount lens is the same size as conventional 100-400mm lenses, yet offers a wider angle of view for excellent versatility. Despite the high magnification ratio, the efficient arrangement of special optical elements ensures high image quality throughout the entire range. The lens features the VXD linear focusing mechanism, which offers excellent quietness and fast response, and the patented VC image stabilization mechanism. Because the 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 lens provides up to half life-size magnification when focusing at close range, users can enjoy a world of semi-macro photography with close-up shooting capabilities with a minimum focusing distance of 0.25m at the 50mm focal length. The filter size is 67mm, the same as most other Tamron mirrorless lenses, providing greater convenience when using multiple lenses. The connector port for the Tamron Lens Utility now offers a "Focus Limiter" function. For Ninkon Z. On sale from 9/10 2024-
Advantages
Di III mirrorless systems
These lenses are designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras and cannot be used with DSLRs.
VXD
VXD autofocusing uses a linear stepper motor for superior autofocusing. The two VXD modules, which operate in a floating system and are controlled by electronic pulses, provide fast and accurate focusing on both near and distant subjects. The new motor also guarantees improved AF, for example when shooting sports. The autofocus works so quietly that you can shoot even in situations that require complete stillness.
MR splash protection
Tamron lenses have a weatherproof lens hood that optimally protects the sensitive interior from the elements. The robust outer shell is effectively sealed against moisture ingress at all critical points (e.g. between the focus ring and bayonet connection). This ensures reliable operation even in the most adverse outdoor shooting conditions.
Special XLD, LD and ASL optical elements
Similar to the LD, this prevents chromatic aberration and other defects. XLD, however, is a much more sophisticated system that is mostly used in telescopes. Color defect is a common defect in optics, manifesting itself in many ways. We often talk about so-called chromatic aberration, which is particularly common in wide-angle lenses. LD elements are made of special optical glasses with extremely low light scattering, which effectively compensate for the colour defect, especially noticeable when using telephoto lenses in the extreme position. The abbreviation "ASL" (ASpherical Lens) refers to the hybrid aspherical elements of the lens. They correct typical zoom lens aberrations such as spherical aberrations (sharpness errors).
BBAR / BBAR G2 and FLR
The BBAR coating prevents reflection and scattering of light incident on the lens surface. You avoid loss of brightness and contrast and prevent "ghosting". The BBAR coating also contributes to natural colour rendering. Since 2019, the advanced BBAR G2 coating has been used. The FLR fluoride coating permanently protects the front lens from contamination. Oil and water droplets do not adhere to the surface, which is therefore very easy to clean.
VC image stabilization
This mechanism helps to maintain a sharp image when shooting without a tripod or in low light conditions.
Zoom lock
The Zoom Lock allows you to lock on to any focal point.
Tamron Lens Utility
The "TAMRON Lens Utility" software has been developed specifically for configuring compatible lenses. It can be operated via a computer by connecting the lens from its connector port via a USB-C cable. Users can customize functions and update firmware through the lens. Using individual settings, the lens can be optimally adapted to the respective shooting situation, such as photography or video shooting.
