TheSD-5 is a compact dynamic microphone with a narrow kidney (supercardioid) directional characteristic. It is rated for high SPL sound pressure, making it ideal for capturing large drum, floor tom, percussion, brass and bass instruments. The SD-5 is excellent for live sound reinforcement and studio applications. With Hemisphere modeling software, you can faithfully model iconic dynamic microphones in your DAW; both during recording and in post-production. The microphone includes a positionable mount with ⅝" to ⅜" thread adapter. The microphone can be stored or transported in a storage case.

The SD-5 microphone has high directivity in the pickup axis, making it ideal where ambient noise or crosstalk from secondary instruments and sounds needs to be suppressed. It is rated for high SPL sound pressure, so it is well suited for contact sensing of very loud sound sources. It will faithfully reproduce the sound of drums, big drum, floor toms, percussion, brass and bass instruments.

The following microphone models are available for the SD-5:

• DN-12A
  based on a popular 1950s dynamic microphone from an established Austrian brand. You can hear it on recordings by Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, and Radiohead, where it was often used with the 421 model for the big drum sound.

• DN-112
  the successor to the previous microphone of the same brand is considered the industry standard. Used on countless hip hop and rock recordings, it features extended low frequency pickup with emphasized upper mids for that particular hard hitting big drum beater attack.
• DN-6
  is based on an American microphone for big drum and bass instruments that became a mainstay for studio recording. With deep bass and heavily overdriven upper mids and highs, it is especially suited for the thick undersides of metal genres.
• DN-52
  emulates the current American brand model for the big drum. It is based on the standard kick drum microphone. This model provides extended low frequency pickup and an overall balanced sound usable for almost any kick or bass instrument.
• DN-SUB
  is based on a studio tweak that uses a speaker for extended low frequency pickup of bass instruments. Many sound engineers combine this sound along with a traditional microphone to add the thick full sound of a large drum or bass instrument.
